As the general election approaches in 16 days, the scarcity
of new naira notes could potentially disrupt the voting process.
This was highlighted by the Chairman of the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, during a meeting with the
Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, at the CBN headquarters in Abuja on
Tuesday.
Yakubu explained that
a significant number of service providers for INEC do not have bank accounts,
and sought the support of the CBN to resolve the issue related to the cash
withdrawal policy which has caused nationwide chaos.
