In order to deal with a two-month-old uprising against President Dina Boluarte that has resulted in 48 fatalities from conflicts between protestors and security personnel, the Peruvian government on Sunday extended and expanded a state of emergency.
According to a notice published in the government gazette, the measure will apply to seven southern Peruvian regions: Madre de Dios, Cusco, Puno, Apurimac, Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna. It will be in effect for 60 days.
