INEC declares Peter Obi's petition against Tinubu as lacking competence.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to dismiss a petition filed by the Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, challenging the victory of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the president-elect.

The petition, marked CA/PEPC/03/2023, was filed by Livy Ozoukwu, the lead counsel to the LP and its presidential candidate. In the petition, the petitioners alleged that Tinubu was not duly elected by the majority of the lawful votes cast during the election. They also claimed that Shettima had a double nomination, which contravened the electoral act.

Furthermore, the petitioners contended that the election was marred by rigging and manipulations and that INEC violated its own regulations by announcing the results before all the polling unit results had been fully scanned, uploaded, and transmitted electronically, as required by the electoral act. However, INEC has argued that the petition lacks competence and should be dismissed.
