Nigerians Fleeing Sudan Finally Arrive In Abuja

Over 270 Nigerian students who were stranded in Sudan due to the ongoing armed conflict were airlifted by Air Peace flight from the Aswan Airport in Egypt and landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

The flight also carried about 80 persons. The Nigerian government had assured citizens of evacuation plans for nearly two weeks, ultimately facilitating the operation with a Nigerian Air Force plane.

The returnees were received by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouk; the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa; and the Director General of the National Management Emergency Agency (NEMA), Ahmed Mustapha, and were given N100,000 each to help them settle in.

Four more aircraft were expected to arrive to evacuate almost 400 more people.
