The battle for the presidency of the 10th National Assembly in Nigeria
has caused a split in the ruling party, All Progressives Congress.
Loyalists of President Buhari are against those of President-elect
Tinubu, leading to tension among legislators from different regions of the
country.
Northern and South-Western leaders
have intervened to prevent further escalation, urging key senators to
prioritize unity and national cohesion over individual ambitions.
Northern Senators were initially upset over the choice of Senator Akpabio
for Senate President but are now considering dropping their ambitions to
support a credible and consensus-vibrant aspirant from the South.
There are three contenders from the North and three from the South, including Godswill Akpabio, Osita Izunaso, Orji Kalu, and possibly former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole.
